Want a long lasting car?  Want to protect your vehicular investment?  Having a regular maintenance schedule will add years to the life of your car, truck or van.  Here are some things you can do now that the weather is turning warmer.

Can car batteries last forever?

We wish.  You should check your battery to ensure there are no signs of corrosion.  Dirty batteries can lead to problems with the ignition system and could stop your car for starting altogether.

Feed your tires… Air that is.

Make sure they’re properly inflated and rotated.  If your tires are older get them looked at with a view to replacement.  A safe vehicle is one with properly functioning tires.

Wipe on; wipe off.

If your windshield wipers are dull get a new pair.  Sometimes spending a little extra means you get better quality because in sudden downpours of rain you’ll be happy you did.

Cooling refreshment for your car.

Having adequate levels of brake fluids, transmission fluid, windshield washer fluid, and engine coolant will mean your car will improve your car’s performance and help stabilize your long term maintenance costs.

Filters, filters, filters.

Dirty oil filters and old oil really hurt a car engine’s performance.  Have your oil changed regularly.  Have Spring allergies?  Perhaps getting the in-car air filter changed is a good idea.

Some people are do-it-yourselfers and regularly do these car maintenance tasks on their own.  That’s great.  But, if you don’t have the time or the inclination a great mechanic and/or auto garage will be most willing to help out.

Have any great tips for keeping your car running smoothly?  We'd love to hear them in the comments below.
